Meet 3 of the CRESCINE partners! Introducing FilmEU members Lusofona University, Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) and Tallinn University

Meet 3 of the CresCine partners working in synergy to understand, engage, empower, and ultimately transform smaller European countries!

The program gathers 15+ members: it brings together a diverse consortium that represents small 6 ecosystems in Europe. They are both from the Academic and Industry sectors, providing a wide range of perspectives and a combination of disciplines crucial to deliver on the project objectives. They also participate in relevant European and global networks of film schools.
The partners to be introduced today are all part of the alliance FilmEU (European Universities Alliance for Film and Media Arts): this alliance is the only of the new “European Universities'' promoted by the EU that deals with the film industry. Gathering 8 members now, since it received new funding of 12.8M€ from the European Commission, earlier in July, three of them are part of the CresCine consortium: Lusofona University (LU, Lisbon, Portugal), coordinator of CresCine, Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT, Dublin, Ireland) and Tallinn University (TLU, Estonia).

These three Higher Education Institutions collaborate around the common objective of jointly promoting high-level education, innovation, and research activities in the multidisciplinary field of Film and Media Arts and, through this collaboration, consolidate the central role of Europe as a world leader in the creative fields.

“The Alliance is set to transform existing teaching and learning practices by leveraging our individual strengths across borders while internationalizing opportunities and collaboration for students and faculty alike.”

The three members of FilmEU and CresCine have strong expertise in Film and Media Arts education, a common ambition to grow to international competitiveness, and a long experience in collaborations that include more than ten years of expertise in the development of European joint projects.

Lusofona University in Lisbon (LU), Portugal:

Our coordinator Lusófona University is the leading film and media education provider in Portugal. It has strong expertise in qualitative audiences and market analysis and development of policy tools for the film industry, regularly producing commissioned research for the Portuguese government on cultural policies. The institution was responsible for several studies on local audiences' aversion to locally produced films.

The Institute of Art Design and Technology (IADT), Ireland

The Institute of Art Design and Technology is Ireland’s specialist institution for creative cultural and technological sectors, across film, art, design, creative technologies, business, psychology, and more, and home to Ireland’s National Film School - which leads IADT’s participation in CRESCINE.

Tallinn University (TLU), Estonia

Tallinn University is the largest university of humanities and social sciences in Tallinn and the third biggest public university in Estonia.
It is home to the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM), Estonia’s main competence center for communication and audiovisual knowledge, and host of the Centre of Excellence in Media Innovation and Digital Culture (MEDIT). MEDIT’s interdisciplinary artistic and empirical research projects involve studies of cultural change and innovation processes that accompany digital and audiovisual media (often from the combined perspectives of the humanities and media or innovation economics) and applying the acquired knowledge in experimenting with creating new and innovative media forms.
It is also an advocate and planner of an intelligent lifestyle in Estonia, supporting the sustainability of our society as well as individual self-realization.

FilmEU and CresCine celebrate the diversity of their members and view their different approaches as the strength that will ensure a unique offering to reach their common goal.
